Mentoring
Since implementing targeted mentoring support, through consistent 1:1 guidance, Mentors have successfully supported learners back into school, enabling them to attend, participate, and complete their examinations. Learners have shown noticeable improvements in confidence, resilience, and their ability to engage positively with staff and peers. In addition to academic progress, learners have developed valuable life and vocational skills, including participation in activities such as barista training, which supports independence and future employability. The use of online learning has also played a key role in ensuring education is accessed in a flexible and supportive way when attending in person has been challenging.
The impact of this support is shown in increased engagement, improved confidence, and a greater willingness to participate in both academic and enrichment activities. Mentoring sessions also help students to feel heard and understood, which is key in encouraging them to become more independent.
Gemma- Practitioner
As a mentoring HLTA at Magdalen Court School, I offer flexible, nurturing mentoring sessions designed to support children both within school and through outreach provision. I work closely with each child to build trust, confidence, and emotional resilience. If it’s delivered in school or within the community, my approach focuses on helping children successfully transition into education, overcome barriers to attendance, and feel safe accessing our facilities. Through consistent, personalised support, we enable learners to re-engage with learning, develop positive relationships, and navigate key transitions with greater independence and stability.
Isaac - Practitioner
Within school, I offer 1-1 mentoring sessions to provide pastoral guidance, support and encouragement, that are designed to help learners navigate academic, emotional and social challenges.
I am qualified in both psychology (BSc) and safeguarding (Level 3), and use a calm, relational approach with our young people.
