Therapies

We value therapies as an integral part of our learner's development. We have an occupational therapist as well as a speech and language therapist who work with us to support the provision within learner's EHCP's. They assess and develop pupils' programmes as well as support our staff development and skills in their specialist areas.

We have a whole school approach to sensory breaks and at lunchtimes we provide a variety of physical activities that include sensory circuits and physical development, both gross and fine.

The school has a wellbeing dog, Milo, who the learners enjoy being part of our school community and who supports learners when they are feeling anxious.

We are an accredited Trauma Informed School.

At our school, we place a strong emphasis on therapies as an essential part of our learners' development. We work closely with both an Occupational Therapist (OT) and Speech and Language Therapists (SaLT), who play an integral role in supporting the universal provision outlined in each learner’s EHCP.

We take a whole-school approach to supporting our learners' sensory and physical needs. Sensory breaks are embedded throughout the day, and during lunchtime, we offer a variety of physical activities that promote both gross and fine motor skills. These activities are designed to enhance our learners’ physical development while also addressing their sensory needs.

Additionally, we have Milo, our wellbeing dog, as part of our school community. Milo provides emotional support to learners, particularly those who may feel anxious, offering comfort and companionship when needed.

As part of our commitment to supporting the emotional wellbeing of our learners, we are an accredited Trauma-Informed School. We integrate therapeutic strategies directly into our curriculum and classroom environment to ensure that all students receive the support they need in a holistic and inclusive way. This includes a range of interventions, such as the Interoception Curriculum, which helps learners recognise the physical signals their bodies give them, and how these relate to emotions and actions. We also offer Emotional Literacy Support (ELSA) sessions, Lego Therapy for communication and interaction, and intensive 1:1 sessions with SaLT to enhance communication skills.

Our staff receives regular INSET training, which helps to integrate therapeutic strategies into everyday classroom practices. Therapy assistants, along with our class teachers and teaching assistants, work collaboratively to continue interventions and ensure that therapeutic support is consistent and effective across all aspects of the learners’ education. Through this coordinated approach, we are committed to fostering a supportive environment that promotes both academic and emotional growth for all our learners.
